An iPad rolled into the shop due to it not turning on. a quick diagnosis narrowed the issue down to a bad charging IC, and a worn charge port. Not much you can do to prevent the charge port from wearing out besides not using the iPad while charging, so no recommendations there. The charging IC going out is a little unusual, however. 9/10 I find that customers who need charging IC replacements tend to use longer 10ft+ cables of dubious quality, usually not MFI certified. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that these longer cables experience higher voltage drops than regular 4ft or even 6ft cables causing the charging IC to be damaged overtime due to the irregular voltage. We got this fixed right up, sold the customer a new charger in addition to the repair, and everything worked out.
